I am a corporate psychotherapist and executive career and performance coach.

Kristen's Experience and Background

I am a Corporate Psychotherapist in private practice and an Executive Career and Performance Coach with Career CoLabs. I help people become stronger, smarter, and better versions of themselves at work through career satisfaction, performance, and agility coaching and training programs.

 

I am the founder of Career CoLabs; a Human Resources Company that provides workforce training, education, and consulting. Career CoLabs hosts The Career CoLabs School; an online career management classroom.

 

I offer analytic psychotherapy to corporate and executive clients through my separate private practices in Florida and Pennsylvania.

 

I specialize in Career and Performance Coaching where I work with people and organizations to become high performing through performance, satisfaction, and career agility training and coaching programs. My programs serve a global clientele in 1:1 sessions and in a collaborative online classroom.

 

My career includes work in profit and non-profits in private, state, and federal government sectors.

 

I am the In-House Executive Career and Performance Coach for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission providing coaching to Accountants, Analysts, Attorneys, Economists, Examiners, IT Specialists, Engineers, and other Industry Specialists via talent development, executive and leadership coaching, and intern career coaching.

 

I provide psycho-behavioral analysis, psychotherapy, performance coaching and consulting services in high technical professions such as human resources, law enforcement, aviation, higher education, telemedicine, and healthcare technology companies and start-ups, and various private sector businesses.

 

I have worked with organizations such as the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs, the Medical University of South Carolina, the Department of Juvenile Justice, The Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

 

I have a Doctorate in Education with a specialization in Organizational Leadership and a Masters in Counseling Psychology. I am Nationally Board Certified as a Licensed Counselor, Master Career Counselor, and a Qualified Supervisor for counselors seeking clinical licensure.

Kristen's Story

After 15 years of counseling in the corporate world, I started my private practice as a solution to my client's unresolved career problems. Not only was I inspired by my client's challenges, but I was also inspired by my own career challenges: burnout from doing work that I did not love and the need for more freedom, flexibility, and control in my professional and personal life. 

 

In 2006, soon after graduating with a Master's degree in counseling, I began working on a Doctorate in Organizational Psychology. I studied and researched practical career and workplace issues such as employee engagement, workforce development, finding satisfying work, being happier at work, leadership development, emotional intelligence and resiliency, team building, workforce research, best practices, and applying strengths in the workplace—all things that I believed in, found meaningful, and loved!

 

We spend so much time at work, shouldn't we kind of enjoy being there? My Doctorate was so much more fun and easier for me than the Masters, I believe, for that reason—It was aligned with my lifelong interests and the work that I really love to do. 

 

My Career Burnout

Over a decade ago, I was in the worst career and life burnout of my life. That time changed everything, and it inspired me to get busy living and taking care of myself. So, I went on a mission to transform my career and my life - a mission which led me to help others do the same. It was not simple nor easy. 

 

I was ready to walk away from it all and throw my entire career away.

 

Everything. My licenses, my title, and my professional identity. I wanted nothing to do with that work any longer. I felt like one more day was going to kill me. The stress and dissatisfaction were soul-sucking.   

 

I jumped ship from corporate work to commit to a new direction. It was scary and difficult and I questioned everything, but I was so sick with burnout that I felt I had no other choice. (I do not recommend anyone do this without a backup plan) I felt instant relief the minute I left my job. Like an elephant was lifted from my chest.

 

Like many of you, I had to sift through tons of books, articles, research, and opinions trying to find help and answers to my questions about career transition. I was lost, stuck, and buried with overanalysis, fears, uncertainties, and doubts. I had no idea how to reinvent myself, but I kept at it because I knew I had to - I could see no other option. What I had been doing for the last 10 years was no longer working for me and it was sucking the life out of me. I wanted out of the hamster wheel. I was so tired, so done, and so over it.  

 

I discovered that my career reinvention was not at odds with helping others reinvent theirs 

 

I went all-in on me and figured it out and then I started testing and sharing my research and my process with my clients.  

 

For the past few years, I’ve been shaping my work into simple, cohesive systems, formulas, and programs. Countless hours (and years) have gone into developing these programs, and this time has allowed me to test and fine-tune it.

 

My Research

 

In researching and working with people over the past 20 years, I have discovered recurring patterns that people experience when navigating change. 

 

I have analyzed data from every one of my career coaching clients and consultation calls over the past 10 years. I examined why they were seeking career counseling, what was missing from their lives and careers, and what they wanted to achieve. I noted the results that they were achieving, the barriers that they experienced while working with me, the questions they asked, and the resources and decisions that they needed to make satisfying career changes.  

 

I have led hundreds of people through my programs and I get as much feedback as possible. I want to make sure it is clear, organized, and that people get results. It has to be efficient, cost-effective, and cut down fluff. It also has to be fantastic and fun to do, too. 

 

I've done that and more.
